The Muscle Shoals Amateur Radio Club (MSARC) serves three counties (Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale) in the Northwest corner of Alabama, and is comprised of over 60 members, all of whom enjoy talking on the air, whether it is a portable handy-talkie or a base station in the comfort of a well-equipped ham shack. MSARC works closely with the served emergency agencies in the three counties and takes part in a week-nightly emergency net (the Alabama Emergency Net J, AENJ), to train members to communicate in emergency situations when the need arises; MSARC also participates in Skywarn. The club meets on the first Saturday of the month for its regular busines meeting, and has a Third Thursday Tech talk at the Colbert County EMA office: these tech talks could be a presentation on building an antenna or a round-table discussion on what new radio to get (aimed at new or upgraded licensees). MSARC also takes part in the June Field Day exercise, provides training classes as applicable, and hold testing sessions at its two monthly meetings, or even on an ad hoc basis as needed.
